Wildlife for Sale is a documentary that investigates the controversial wildlife trade in the Philippines and in neighboring Asian countries. It traces the intricate wildlife trafficking trail right from the source, to transshipment points, down to the markets where they are sold.
The documentary also traces how widespread the wildlife trade is across Asia. Documenting the trade from Myanmar, Thailand, China, Indonesia, and other parts of Southeast Asia, Wildlife for Sale is a comprehensive report on the state of wildlife in various parts of the world. The report uncovers what wild animals go through before they become souvenir items, pets in cages, and even delicacies on the table.
Wildlife for Sale also reveals the major root of the trade—the demand for wildlife. Poachers and traders during interviews admitted that engaging in this business is highly lucrative; and because of the demand, the sale of wild animals has become their bread and butter. A trader also narrates how they were able to ship animals from Palawan to Manila without being caught by authorities.
At the heart of this controversial issue is the very survival of species. Every year, more animals are added to the Red List of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), revealing an alarming trend. More and more of the world's wildlife are pushed to the brink of extinction by habitat destruction, and by excessive and illegal hunting.
Richard shares that working on the documentary was something very different from his other projects, "I know this can be dangerous but as they say, nothing good come easy."
There are also many "firsts" that he experienced while filming the documentary. He joins Palawan's CIDG on a buy-bust operation against poachers and traders of Philippine Geckos. He and the team discover more than seventy geckos inside plastic bottles bound for Malaysia. Richard also surveys a seized foreign vessel that was caught fishing along Philippine waters. Remains of poached sea turtles or pawikan, critically endangered animals, are found inside the vessel. "Isa iyon sa mga hindi ko makakalimutang experience. Nagulat ako na nandoon pa 'yung mga poacher." (That is one of my most unforgettable experiences. I was shocked to see that the poachers were still on the vessel), Richard recalls.
The television host and environmental advocate says being part of this show is a learning experience because he was like a journalist on the field to cover. He spent a week filming and pursuing the story. "Coming from Planet Philippines and Signos, I wanted to do more and be more active, that's why Wildlife for Sale is the perfect topic for me," says Richard.
Wildlife for Sale airs this Sunday, July 25, 10:30PM, on GMA-7 's Sunday Night Box Office (S.N.B.O.)

GMA-7 loses rating war, vows to reclaim top spot
By Night Owl on 1:53 AM

GMA Network Inc. conceded the rating war to ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. and promised to “regain superiority,” especially in Mega Manila.
“In a way we are glad that the ratings of ABS-CBN woke us up, we just have to regain superiority,” GMA Network chairman, president and chief executive Felipe Gozon told reporters late Friday.
GMA Channel 7 and ABS-CBN Channel 2 engaged in a tight race in audience share in May and June, with the Lopez-led TV network grabbing a slight the lead in the national, Mega Manila and Metro Manila ratings.
“We began to recognize that we have to do something, we need to start all over again,” Gozon said, adding that GMA Network was now “on the road to the superiority that we want on them, so we can brag again.”
“We have regained the momentum,” he said, referring to Channel 7’s widening lead in Mega Manila and Luzon ratings in the first two weeks of July.
Meanwhile, Gozon said GMA Network was now ready for the country’s transition to digital TV. He estimated the additional investments for fully switching off from analog TV at less than P500 million.
“The equipment we buy are all digital ready,” he said, adding that GMA Network could switch off in less than two months once ordered by the government.
The National Telecommunications Commission has chosen Japan’s integrated services digital broadcasting technology for the country’s transition from analog to digital TV.

StarStruck V alums Sarah Lahbati, Steven Silva, Diva Montelaba and Enzo Pineda will star in the next "Lovebug" episode on GMA.
Sarah Lahbati and Diva Montelaba will be paired with co-StarStruck finalists Steven Silva and Enzo Pineda, in one way or another, on GMA-7's Sunday romance offering, Lovebug.
Their episode entitled "Exchange of Hearts" was shot entirely in the scenic island of Camiguin--following the program's tradition of picking locations outside Manila just like past episodes "The Last Romance" (Hong Kong) starring Carla Abellana and Dennis Trillo, and "Wish Come True" (Singapore) starring Kris Bernal and Daniel Matsunaga.
The pristine beauty of Camiguin caught the fascination of the production team according to program manager Hazel Abonita. They were after all looking for a location that would perfectly complement the plot of young vacationers finding love while on holiday.
Here is the plot of Lovebug: Exchange of Hearts:
Rachel (Sarah) and Tim (Steven) are childhood friends with their respective parents hoping that a romantic relationship would blossom between the two. In reality, however, Rachel is committed to Emil (Enzo) while Tim has Barbie (Diva) as his girlfriend. Rachel's mother then conspires with Tim's mother to set up the two by sending them to Camiguin for a vacation. At first, Rachel and Tim would always argue but the more they spend time together, the more Tim falls in love with Rachel. Meanwhile, Barbie and Emil pursue their respective loves around Camiguin. Barbie and Emil eventually find themselves falling for each other. Soon, the four finally meet: Rachel is now in love with Tim and Barbie falls for Emil. Will they be ready to embrace a new love? Will the four find fulfillment in the arms of their accidental partners? What happens now that they have already new loves? Will they choose to be with the one they really love or settle instead with the person they're now with?
Catch the newest offering of Lovebug titled "Exchange of Hearts" beginning this Sunday afternoon, July 18, on GMA-7.
