GMA Network Premieres Remake of Endless Love

By Night Owl on 9:00 PM

How far would you go to be with the one you truly love? Does love know how to surrender? Can love defy fate and time? Is there an end to love? On June 28, the answers to these questions will be unveiled as the most-awaited local adaptation of the first successful Korean series on Philippine TV begins.

In line with its 60th anniversary celebration, GMA Network offers Endless Love, which features the highly anticipated primetime TV reunion of the most sought-after love team in the country - Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.

The phenomenal loveteam of Dingdong and Marian first became popular in Marimar. They followed up this big hit with another successful series, Dyesebel. The two were last seen together on primetime in Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang. This year, Dingdong and Marian are back together as they are set to breathe life to the well-loved lead characters of Johnny and Jenny in Endless Love.

The Kapuso Network’s latest offering also features award-winning actor Dennis Trillo who plays the equally important role of Andrew. Kapuso homegrown artist Nadine Samonte, meanwhile, will portray the antagonist character of Shirley.

Other cast members include a grand ensemble of the industry's well-respected artists led by Tirso Cruz III, Sandy Andolong, Janice de Belen together with Bernard Palanca, Marco Alcaraz, Gabby Eigenmann, Ces Quesada, Jana Dominguez, Mosang, Bela Padilla and Ms. Kuh Ledesma in a very special role.

Endless Love also introduces three young stars who went through a series of auditions before bagging significant roles in the series. The three showbiz neophytes are Joyce Ching as the young Shirley, Kristoffer Martin as the young Johnny and Kathryn Bernardo as the young Jenny.

Mac Alejandre directs the series, which tells a compelling love story filled with twists and hapless situations that will make the viewers' tears fall every night.

Lead characters Johnny (Dingdong) and Jenny (Marian) are siblings from a well-off family. They are sheltered and are genuinely loved by their parents Robert (Tirso Cruz III) and Katherine (Sandy Andolong). Johnny loves his sister and is very protective of Jenny, who loves her brother as much.

The perfect and happy lives of Johnny and Jenny turn topsy-turvy when an accident leads their family to discover an incident from the past. The family learns there was a case of baby switching in the hospital the day Jenny was born. They discover that Robert and Katherine's real daughter is Shirley, the poor, mean and resentful classmate of Jenny.

The lives of Jenny and Shirley are dramatically reversed in an instant. Jenny wants to stay but Shirley keeps pushing her to leave the family she loves so much. Hurting, the weak-willed Jenny decides to run away. Even when Johnny and his family invite Jenny to live with them abroad, Jenny opts to stay with her hostile biological mother Suzy (Janice de Belen) and good-for-nothing brother Jojo (Gabby Eigenmann).

Jenny grows up to be a simple, beautiful and kind-hearted young lady. She works in a hotel resort as a housekeeping staff where she meets Andrew (Dennis Trillo), the conceited and naughty son of the hotel owner gets smitten by Jenny’s charm and beauty.

Andrew does everything to get Jenny’s attention. He soon realizes that Jenny is slowly changing him. The former inconsiderate wealthy guy proudly shares to his bestfriend that he has found the woman he truly loves.

Conflict arises when Johnny returns from abroad to search for his beloved sister Jenny. Soon, the two long lost siblings reunite. Will Johnny and Jenny finally admit that the love they feel for each other is more than just familial love?

But what will these ill-fated lovers do when reality unfurls – that Johnny is the bestfriend of Andrew, who is head over heels in love with Jenny. And although he will fight for the love of his life, Johnny is engaged to his girlfriend Yumi (Bela Padilla). Andrew, on the other hand, is being pursued by Jenny’s archrival, Shirley.

What will happen to the intertwined loves and lives of Johnny, Jenny and Andrew? Who will be the best man to win the heart of Jenny? And what is this secret that Jenny has been keeping from the people who love her?

Kapuso gems Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo star in a chronicle of unwavering love that may either lead to a long-lasting happiness or an eternal heartbreak in Endless Love beginning June 28 on GMA Telebabad.

Is it possible for siblings to be too close for comfort?

An interesting story about a brother-sister relationship gone bad takes centerstage in Claudine this Saturday, June 26. Young actor and TV host Paolo Ballesteros will join Claudine Barretto in this episode titled "Doble Cara."

Cara (Claudine Barretto), a fashion designer, meets her homosexual half-brother (Paolo Ballesteros) for the first time after the untimely demise of their father (Chinggoy Alonzo). An aspiring designer himself, Carlo (Paolo Ballesteros) offers to help out his sister with her business and in the process bond with her as well.

All is well until mysteries surrounding Carlo's identity are revealed to Cara, which the latter initially refuses to believe. But Carlo becomes oddly possessive of her to the point of meddling in Cara's relationship with her fiancé (Luis Alandy), and even going as far as becoming a transvestite version of the female designer.

Cara is naturally freaked out by her brother's actions, which ultimately puts their newly-built relationship in jeopardy.

Can Cara and Carlo still mend their broken ties? Will they be able to accept each other for who they are: flaws and all?

This Claudine episode directed by Argel Joseph will air this Saturday, June 26, after Pinoy Records on GMA-7.

'Take Me Out' Tops TNS Ratings

By Night Owl on 9:47 AM

Filed Under:

Who would have thought the R&B Prince would soon prove his mettle as consummate TV host?

Within just a month, Jay-R did that and more during his baptism of fire as host of GMA 7’s reality dating show, Take Me Out. The Fil-Am singer has earned critical acclaim for his hosting, thus pulling up the show’s nationwide non-prime and late-night ratings.

According to the latest TNS National TV ratings from June 1 to 4, Take Me Out earned 11.9 percent, 12.5 percent, 12.1 percent and 14.3 percent, besting closest competitor PBB which posted 11.2 percent, 11.6 percent, 12.6 percent and 13.7 percent for the same respective days.

The show also rates just as well in its replay slot from 12 to 12:30 a.m., edging out competitors in the late-night rankings.

The dating game’s slow but steady ascent coincides with the latest twists and unexpected turns of events that leave viewers glued to their seats, rooting for their bets and getting a kick out of watching romantic sparks fly between the winning couple.

A hefty chunk of the show’s success can be credited to Jay-R, who has been enjoying his newfound role playing Cupid among the loveless and lovelorn.

He breezed through expected start-up glitches and birth pains, but after hurdling the initial month, he’s found his groove. Jay-R seems more confident with his Tagalog diction, although a wider vocabulary could afford him more leeway to get even more intimate with televiewers.

His good looks and fresh, youthful appeal have proven to be an asset in winning the hard-to-please teen market, and his relaxed, easygoing vibe makes him an engaging host.

Jay-R admits being buoyed by positive feedback from friends and fans. “The ratings are an entirely different ballgame,” Jay-R admits. “Of course, it’s always encouraging to know we’re making headway in that department, but what’s more important to me is that we make it fun for everybody on the set.”

“Admittedly, Pinoys are very romantic at heart,” Jay-R shares, “And somehow, they always feel some sort of connection to contestants. Bottom line is, they always look forward to that time when love blooms — even among the most unexpected times and places.”

This week, celebrities pump up the glamour and glitz as Kapuso stars show up in Take Me Out.

JC Tiuseco, Daniel Matsunaga, Geoff Taylor, Mart Escudero, Bodie Cruz, Carl Guevarra and Aljur Abrenica look for their one ideal date among the 30 single Take Me Out girls.

Marian Rivera makes more eyes pop as she graces the Wednesday edition of the show. The much-awaited Couple of the Week will also be announced.

Take Me Out airs every weekday afternoons (5 to 5:30 p.m.) with replays at 12 to 12:30 a.m.
